The Brandenburg Labs team had the chance to network, share experiences, and discuss new ideas at the ICASSP 2022 International Conference on Acoustics, Speech & Signal Processing in Singapore from May 22th to 27th 2022. ICASSP is the IEEE Signal Processing Society’s flagship conference on signal processing and its applications. The 47th edition of ICASSP was held in Singapore at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre, a well-known landmark in Singapore’s Skyline. The program included keynotes by pre-eminent international speakers, cutting-edge tutorial topics, and forward-looking special sessions. The conference provides great networking opportunities with a wide range of like-minded professionals from academia.
On the first day, we visited the newly established Entrepreneurship Forum. The ICASSP committee organized the event in order to inspire young researchers and connect them with the leading entrepreneurs in the field of technology. We were able to listen to inspiring pitches by fellow start-ups and get valuable insights into the international entrepreneurship field from established experts.
On Tuesday, ICASSP officially started with the opening ceremony in the grand ballroom. Throughout the day, we listened to many interesting interdisciplinary talks and expert sessions. During the social event in the evening, we expanded our networks while enjoying a bird’s eye view of Singapore from the 57th floor of Marina Bay Sands hotel.
In the first expert session, held on Tuesday, our CEO, Karlheinz Brandenburg, spoke about the state of the art of immersive audio for headphones and new developments in the field. Additionally, he talked about what is needed to eventually enable customers to enjoy truly immersive sound via headphones. Karlheinz Brandenburg also shared some of the projects Brandenburg Labs is currently working on. The active participation from the live and online audience and interesting questions facilitated by the host made the session especially fruitful. On Wednesday evening, the participants of the conference gathered for a banquet dinner accompanied by a traditional dance show.
Throughout the week, our team especially enjoyed the audio related program, consisting of Plenaries, Industry Program, live Tutorials and select Oral Paper Presentations by in-person attendees. Such interdisciplinary events help us think out of the box and give us valuable insights into other research areas as well.
As part of the closing ceremony, the farewell party took place in the Science and Art Museum, where we enjoyed art and exhibition while connecting with new people and potential partners.
Finally, we would like to express our gratitude to the ICASSP 2022 organizing committee for welcoming everyone to this prestigious conference and making our stay in Singapore memorable. We are looking forward to seeing you in Rhodes for ICASSP 2023.
