AES Europe 2023

2023-05-19

An event for the books!

Our team had the pleasure of attending the 154th Audio engineering convention held at the Aalto University, Espoo, near Helsinki. Brandenburg Labs was a silver partner of AES Europe 2023, supporting knowledge transfer, communication, and collaboration between audio enthusiasts and professionals. In this blog article, we share the most remarkable insights and highlights from our experience at the convention.

This year’s edition was special as AES celebrates its 75th anniversary, connecting like-minded audio enthusiasts and professionals worldwide. AES has been playing a vital role in facilitating knowledge exchange and keeping the industry updated on the latest technological advancements and their practical implementation in the field of audio technology since 1948.

Our team had an incredible time showcasing our immersive audio demo at our booth. We were thrilled to witness numerous enthusiastic listeners who thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Moreover, we had the opportunity to engage with our listeners and gain valuable insights from their innovative suggestions and ideas, which further enhanced our demo.

In addition to engaging in captivating workshops and enlightening keynotes, we had the opportunity to delve into insightful papers and much more during the convention. It provided us with a valuable platform to expand our knowledge on the latest advancements in the audio field, allowing us to gain new perspectives and broaden our horizons. We were able to connect with a diverse network of professionals, fostering meaningful relationships and opening doors to potential collaborations.

Furthermore, our team here at Brandenburg Labs filmed a workshop titled “Proof of Concept – Plausible Binaural Renderer” for this convention. The workshop introduces the basic setup and report on both informal tests and formal testing in Ilmenau, proving that plausible playback via binaural rendering is finally possible. Next to the study’s findings, our CEO, Karlheinz Brandenburg, gives insights into requirements for lifelike immersive audio for headphones. Our team enjoyed a delightful cruise networking event hosted by AES, where we had the opportunity to not only connect with professionals and enthusiasts from the audio industry but also explore the rich history and hidden gems of Helsinki. The event provided a perfect blend of networking and knowledge transfer, allowing us to learn and socialize in a beautiful setting. Adding to the charm of the occasion, Finland welcomed us with its finest weather, offering bright and sunny days that made activities and events a joy to experience.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Department of Information and Communication Engineering of Aalto University for their invaluable support in providing equipment for our booth and hosting the event.

Moreover, we would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to AES for organizing this remarkable event and creating a platform that brings together audio professionals, enthusiasts, marketers, and various stakeholders. Through events like these, professionals can network, share insights, and explore new possibilities.

See you at the next AES event, held at the University of Huddersfield, Queensgate, Huddersfield, United Kingdom, from the 23rd – the 25th of August, 2023. Our startup Brandenburg Labs is a gold partner of this convention.
