2025-04-15

The 2025 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing (ICASSP) was held from April 6 to 11 in the vibrant city of Hyderabad, India. As one of the leading global events in signal processing, ICASSP brought together researchers, innovators, and industry leaders from around the world. We were thrilled to be part of this exciting week filled with cutting-edge ideas and inspiring conversations. It is organized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology.

Our CEO, Prof. Karlheinz Brandenburg, joined the Industry Talk track on Thursday, April 10, to deliver his talk, “A Dream Come True: How to Deliver Fully Plausible Immersive Audio over Headphones,” which offered attendees insights  into the future of immersive audio experiences and how our technology is shaping the industry.

Beyond the Conference Halls – A Special Visit to GITAM University

As part of his trip, Prof. Brandenburg also visited GITAM (Deemed to be University) in Hyderabad on April 8. Welcomed by the Department of Electrical, Electronics, and Communication Engineering, he toured advanced laboratories and engaged in thoughtful conversations with faculty and students.

During his visit, he delivered a talk titled “From mp3 to PARty: How signal processing, psychoacoustics, and machine learning fit together, sharing insights from his journey from the invention of MP3 to his current research and vision for the future of immersive audio.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Prof. V. Rama Sastry, Dean – Core Engineering and Director, School of Technology, and the entire GITAM community for their warm hospitality and inspiring exchange of ideas.

A special highlight of the trip was Prof. Brandenburg’s meeting with M. M. Keeravani, a renowned Indian music composer, Oscar winner, and Padma Shri awardee. It was a remarkable moment of exchange between two pioneers who have each made a lasting impact on the world of sound and music.

We would also like to thank Sunanda Rao-Erdem of Seraphim Communications LLP and her team for facilitating these meaningful connections and conversations.
