On 1–2 October 2026, alumni, researchers and industry experts will come together at Technische Universität Ilmenau for the Alumni Symposium in Media Technology and Media Engineering. Brandenburg Labs will take part in the two-day programme and contribute to the exchange around three decades of media technology in Ilmenau.
The event offers an opportunity to reconnect with former colleagues, researchers and graduates while looking back at key developments in media technology and discussing where the field is heading next. For Brandenburg Labs, the symposium also reflects a close connection to the research environment from which much of our work emerged.
As part of the programme, we will open our research lab for technology demonstrations on 1 October from 15:00 to 17:30. Visitors will be able to experience current developments in immersive and spatial audio and learn more about the technologies behind our work.
The symposium also highlights the long-standing connection between Brandenburg Labs, TU Ilmenau and the broader media technology community. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Karlheinz Brandenburg played a central role in this history as the first director of the Institute of Media Technology at TU Ilmenau, head of the Electronic Media Technology group for many years and founding director of Fraunhofer IDMT.
We look forward to welcoming familiar faces, meeting new ones and contributing to the discussion around the past, present and future of media technology.
More information can be found on the official symposium-page.
